The Fourmile Creek Watershed is a 76,600 acre watershed located in Central Iowa. This area has historically (modern history) been characterized by intense large scale agriculture, but in recent years it has been and is being converted into more urban communities. Currently, census estimates have the population at over 80,000 people.
In this map from http://www.fourmilecreekwatershed.org, you can see where Fourmile Creek itself ultimately flows into the Mississippi.
This watershed and its tributaries are of interest to me as I plan to move to Iowa within the next 18 months. There are currently efforts in place to reduce the nitrogen load that is sent into the Des Moines River, which flows into the Mississippi, which empties into the Gulf of Mexico.
